Chilli potato is a popular Indo-Chinese dish known for its crispy, spicy, and tangy flavors. It’s made by coating potato chunks in a flavorful sauce, often with a hint of sweetness and a kick of spice.
Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into thin strips or cubes
- 1/4 cup cornflour (cornstarch)
- 1 teaspoon red chili paste
- Salt to taste
- Oil, for frying
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 tablespoon ginger, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon garlic, finely chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green capsicum, sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 teaspoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoons tomato ketchup
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- Spring onions, chopped for garnish
Method
- In a large bowl, toss the potato pieces with cornflour, red chili paste, and salt.
- Heat oil in a deep pan or wok for frying.
- Fry the potato pieces in batches until golden and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Heat oil. Add chopped ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Sauté for a minute until fragrant.
- Add the chopped onion and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender but still crisp. Add Sliced onion, capsicum and bell pepper.
- Stir in the soy sauce, tomato ketchup, vinegar, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the fried potato pieces to the sauce and toss well to coat them evenly.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the potatoes to absorb the flavors of the sauce.
- Garnish with spring onions,
- Serve hot as an appetizer or a side dish, and enjoy the spicy, tangy goodness of chili potatoes
